Shopping Trip and Beach

0

Took off this morning for a short day trip to Gulfport to get some shopping in and we ended up dropping by the beach for literally 5 minutes.  I really needed to pick up a couple more pair of suit pants and more dress shirts.  We met Jumi and Seungae through Wonyoung and we all drove down together. Seungae and Jumi are both new grad students and seem to be a lot of fun.

JJ and I are hitting the library again after lunch tomorrow.  Hopefully, I will have a little bit of free time tomorrow night!  To say that life has been crazy the last 5 days would be the understatement of the year.   JJ and I are both in the process of trying to figure out how to balance our study and work times.(More on that later)

Mud Bugs

2

Mud bugs, crawdads, or crawfish whatever you call them…..They are South Mississippi/Louisiana staple in the spring. My brother’s girlfriend invited us to her family’s crawfish boil and I can actually thank her for the photos as well. She is in the market for a DSLR and wanted to try mine out. She took some great photos and we had a great time and enjoyed a few pounds of crawfish. This was JJ’s first crawfish boil and she real seemed to get into it! It has been over 5 years for me and I wasted no time in sucking some heads and pinching tails!(I don’t own this hat thought) Usually, the first batch is not that spicy but this one caused me to drink more beer than normal. I usually like to wait for the second or third batch when they are normally hotter but they cooked these up right!

Family Day

4

I think a part of me is missing Korea although I do enjoy our life in Hattiesburg…I find myself still checking out my regular Korean blogs and friend’s Facebook pages who are still in Korea. JJ and I both realize that our lives have changed and that we are now living in the States. We are both going through culture shock. The convenience factor of Korea is still my number one reason for enjoying life there. I really forgot how nice it was to have everything so close to you.

I still have a list of things to do that need to be done before we leave for Kentucky but are getting pushed further and further back. Luckily, they are all personal projects that really don’t have a firm deadline.

We did make it to early Mass at St. Thomas here in Hattiesburg today. We all came back to my parent’s house and put up the tree and started the process of decorating from Christmas. My brother and his family came out and we ended up taking a bunch of photos. I told my brother that I would send my photographer bill to him in 3 years when he finishes law school.

Tickets, Weddings, and Plans

6

JJ and I booked all of our flights and now have e-tickets for our entire trip. We will fly from Seoul to Paris with a 7hour lay-over in Kuala Lumpur. We will spend 6 nights in Paris in a small hotel near Republique station. It doesn’t seem to be that far from all the major sights. . We just found out that one of our friends, who I worked with at Youngdo, is living in Paris. We hope to meet up with her during our week in the city. We are steadily gathering information and tips on how to enjoy our week in the City of Lights. After a week in a Paris, we will depart for New York. We have about a 4 hour lay-over in Dublin. I think this is enough time for us to grab a pint or two. We will get into New York around 6pm and grab a hotel near the airport. Our plan is to get up super early and go explore Manhattan for about 10 hours the next day and then fly into New Orleans. We won’t get to see much of New York in a day, but I sure that we will get to Times Square and spend most of our day in that general area. I am pretty sure that we are going to need some major rest before the wedding, but we really have only two weeks to get everything ready once we get back. Sometime in that two weeks before the wedding, I need to buy a car and get a new driving license. I let it expire while I have been in Korea and did not have the chance to renew it while I was in the States.

We are also in the process of gathering addresses, so that we can send out our wedding invitations. JJ has ordered the invitations which I think look great. The design looks good and I can wait to see how the finished product comes out. weddinginvite

JJ’s parents and family are arriving the day before the wedding. This will not give the much of chance to rest up before the wedding rehearsal, but because of work schedules this is their only option. They will only be staying in Mississippi for two nights. They will be staying about 2 weeks in California with JJ’s older sister. They are all coming down for the wedding, so it should be a great time. It will be interesting to see how her family handles eating Mississippi food for a few days. Catfish and hushpuppies with Turnip greens and cornbread!!! Wow! I get hungry just thinking about it!

A couple of images for you. The first one was taken at Bongeunsa and the last one was taken in Songtan on our way to eat Thai food. The dog seemed very protective of the shoe store. or maybe just didn’t like kids. Bongeunsa141516

We are having a somewhat lazy Saturday. I am still trying to hire a teacher to take my place and have been busy interviewing prospective teachers. I have a little less than 45 days left at the school and there is a lot for me to get sorted out before we leave. We are headed to Bundang tonight to have dinner with Troy and Joanne. Sunday will be spent gathering items for our trip and doing some serious packing. I really want to take a bunch of photographs on our trip and I will need to go buy some more CF cards and maybe a new camera bag.

Hope you have a great weekend!~
