July 3rd Random Vocab

1

These are a combination of words from previous lessons that I have forgotten and words that popped up this week that I didn’t know.

I’m trying to not add to many words per week.  I have a habit of creating huge vocabulary lists and then never making it through them. I am trying to add about 50-100 a week to my flash cards.  I am also in the process of adding words from 2A to my list. I know that there are other language learners that read this blog. How many words are you learning a week?

4th of July

4

We had a great 4th today.  We started off with a cookout at my parent’s house to celebrate my nephew’s birthday.

I also grabbed a couple shots of my sister and her family after lunch.

We also had time to come back home and grab a nap. Our cat tends to be very social. She doesn’t ever let anyone sleep alone.

After napping we drove over to St. Thomas Church where there was a cookout and flag ceremony. It was a great celebration and the turnout was pretty good.

Even if you are not American, I hope that you enjoyed the day.

Grad School Application Fun

4

My school application has been turned in. Now, I am just waiting for all of my letters of rec to arrive at the school. JJ has also turned in her application and waiting as well. I would love to know that I was accepted before we leave for the Smoky Mountains next week. (Did I mention that we were going to Tennessee for a week?)

The difference in in-state vs. out-of-state-tuition is close to $3,000 a semester. Here is my quandary. I am not an official resident of Mississippi but my father works for the University.  Luckily, I will become a state resident in November. If we are denied, we will only have to pay out of state tuition for 1 semester but I would still like to save that $6,000.

The regulations.

TWELVE MONTHS OF RESIDENCE REQUIRED
Twelve months of residence required- No student may be admitted to the University as a resident of Mississippi unless his/her residence as the defined herein above, has been in the state of Mississippi for a continuous period of at least twelve months immediately preceding his/her admission

RESIDENCE STATUS OF A MARRIED PERSON

A married person may claim the residence of his/her spouse

CHILDREN OF PARENTS WHO ARE EMPLOYED BY THE UNIVERSITY
Children of parents who are members of the faculty or staff of the University may be classified as residents without regard to the residence requirement of twelve months.

My problem.
So if I am classified as a resident through my father, can JJ be classified through me?  There is also a question as to whether this regulation applies to me since I am not a dependent of my father. The way it is written appears to me that I would be classified as a resident and that JJ would as well.

I do need to give the university credit in the way they have handled the situation.  No one has given me an answer yet but everyone seems to be trying to figure out who can make the decision and all of my emails have been answered promptly.  Hopefully, we will know soon.

Changes

0

I am in the process of a major overhaul of this blog. My content will slowly be changing as well.  I love taking photographs and the size of the old design was perfect for sharing my photography.  The problem is that I am moving away from just sharing photographs and wanted to have more posts about Mississippi, Korea, ESL topics, and Korean language topics. I will still be posting photographs but have also created a quick gallery of some of my photos here. The old design just wasn’t useful in sharing much besides photography. I felt that every post needed a photograph and not just a snapshot. I found that I was posting less and less. Hopefully, the new layout will provide a better user experience along with more information.

I am also still in the process of working on two new pages. The first being information for English teachers in Korea who ask me  about Dongtan, South Korea. I still receive about 3-5 emails a month with questions about the area. I have also started receiving emails from Koreans who want to go the University of Southern Mississippi or William Carey University in Hattiesburg, MS so I am working on a page with information on those topics as well. This page will probably be written mostly in Korean.

I am also in process of updating my blog roll and links. I especially need to update my list of other bloggers who are studying Korean. I recently created a new page for my Korean Language learning plan with resources and you can find more Korean language information there.

I also imported all the posts from my old blog. I still need to go back and re-size some images in my older posts so that they fit better with the new site design.

To sum it all up, smaller photos, more posts, and a new design!
