Leaving Kentucky……….

February 2, 2010

JJ and I are in the process of packing all of our things to head back to Mississippi. We will leave on Wednesday morning and head to Little Rock via Memphis. We really need to stock up on some Korean food so we are going to hit up an Asian market in Memphis. We will then go on to my Aunt’s house in Little Rock. This will be my first time to visit her in Little Rock and we are really looking forward to the trip. We are only staying two nights but we will be going to the horse track on Thursday and are really excited about getting to see the races. We will then go on back to Hattiesburg and real life will start up. I will begin the job search and work on getting into grad school.

The last few days have been good for photo opportunities.

I have been trying to get this shot all month.

Snow and Birds

We are still in Kentucky and are here for at least another few days. The plan is to head to Little Rock on Wednesday to spend a couple of days with my aunt and then back to Hattiesburg,MS by Friday. We are in the middle of a huge snow storm here in Kentucky. We were supposed to get snow last night but it really didn’t start until about noon today. We have gotten a few inches already and are expecting about 8-10 inches total. Today was a pretty good day for photos. Here are a few from today:

Sunday Outside

January 18, 2010

JJ and I made it to 11am mass today. We picked up Billie who came out to the house for lunch. After lunch we watched Brett Favre lead the Vikings to victory. After the game I took Billie on a sight-seeing tour of the area. We came across a bunch of deer, a hawk, an eagle and an unhappy cow. It was great to spend some time with him and talk about future plans and school. My grandparents have already said that they are gonna kidnap him from church and make him come out and eat lunch again.

The neighbor’s dog has taken such a liking to JJ that she walked all around the lake with her today. This is the dog that will not even let my grandmother pet her. JJ has been giving her treats and I guess has won her over. I was shocked to see them in the driveway playing when Billie and I drove up.

Our Hosts

My grandparents (my mom’s parents) have been wonderful hosts. They have been taking great care of us. My grandfather due to health reasons doesn’t eat dinner so lunch has been a huge southern extravaganza for every meal. We have enjoyed roast, greens, corn bread, hot tamale pie, hamburger steak, tenderloin, peach cobbler, chocolate cake and of course sweet tea~! My grandfather and I tend to work till lunch then after lunch I take off to hike around the lake until 3 or 4 everyday. We still have a lot of jobs left on the list and should be able to get everything taken care of in the next couple of weeks. We have already repaired the garage door, burned a lot of junk, hauled off a ton of scrap metal, fixed some frozen pipes and more. It seems to never end but it is really great to have the chance to spend some extended time with them. JJ has really been able to bond with my grandmother and I have been able to spend some quality time arguing politics with my grandfather. I never knew my father’s father and my father’s mother died a few years ago from Alzheimer’s. It really makes me appreciate my time in Kentucky.

My brother lives right down from the latest Extreme Makeover home.  The construction has been ongoing for past week. I have never seen the show, but it has been a huge deal around Hattiesburg. My brother and his wife were sitting at home one night when the part of the crew knocked on their door and apologized for the mess and the noise.  They invited them to walk down to the tents for their meals for the rest of the week.  My sister-in-law has been taking full advantage of that:) I have been wanting to get down to the site and check out the house.  I worked at the Sheriff’s Office with the winner of the makeover many years ago.  His name is Sherman Heathcock and although we were not close, I always remember him being a good guy.  I do know that he was flown back from Iraq to be involved in the show.  For more information you can check out the Extreme Hattiesburg Website.

We walked down there today to see the moving of the bus.  Well, we actually saw them move the bus in practice but they were taking so long that we decided to head back to my brother’s house for some warmth!  We did run into a couple of celebrities.  Christian Slater who helped with construction and Ty Pennington ,the host of the show were on the scene.  I was able to get a few photos. There were people everywhere and we were able to slip past security and get pretty close to the action. We actually made two trips to the site today. The second time we went there were way too many people and were not able to see anything, so we headed back after getting cold.

The house seen on the left looks great. I am glad that they did not build something huge that would stick out in a neighborhood of somewhat smaller houses.

This is what it looked like when we arrived the second time. You could really see anything.

We can’t wait to see what it looks like on the inside and are looking forward to seeing the episode when it airs in March.

Relaxed

December 1, 2009

JJ and I finally have had a chance to slow down and relax. Today was the first day in awhile that was not spent running errands or talking about the wedding. We did spend a little bit of today returning things that we didn’t use from a couple of stores and then we spent the night watching the Saints game.(Who Dat? 11-0??????)

On Friday we picked up her family from their hotel and gave them a tour of our city and future University. We then met my brother and sister-in-law for lunch at Ryan’s. Which was a really bad choice since my mother-in-law got sick later and could not attend the rehearsal dinner. I got back home about an hour before we had to go to the church and our house looked like a Louisiana Seafood House.

The rehearsal went well and Father Tommy was great as usual. We then went to the Canebrake Lake House for a dinner that my parents had arranged. The food was awesome! My brother had boiled a ton of shrimp and my brother-in-law had made some of the best gumbo I have ever tried. We also had ribs and other types of food that we had catered. We had a nice crowd, but unfortunately I don’t have any pictures from the event yet.

We left the dinner and went to one of our friend’s house and spent the night chatting and catching up. The ongoing joke was that we were all quiet because there was nobody to talk about since we were all there. There were about 13 of us who were able to get together. My friend Shannon had flown in from Japan and Clint had driven from Arkansas. It had been awhile since I had seen them and it was great to catch up.

Jason and Jennifer were kind enough to let us use their house and even had bought a propane heater to keep everyone warm. All in all it was a great night.

I hope to have some wedding photos soon. I really hope that our photographer did a good job. I think that his shots outside before the wedding are going to be really great!~

Happy Thanksgiving

November 27, 2009

We had an early lunch with the Mississippi family and then with the help of my brother Hall we drove to Jackson in two cars to pick up Jaeyoun’s family. We checked them in to their hotel and then brought them back to my parent’s house for their first American Thanksgiving Dinner(Well, truthfully leftovers!) They loved the turkey and dressing! We exchanged some gifts and my brother-in-law surprised me with a case of Soju! JJ’s mother made purses for my mother and grandmother. My mother got JJ’s mom a Mississippi Snowball, a pearl cluster.I took a ton a pics!~ Tomorrow is the rehearsal dinner and another day of errand running!
